Lilian Maude Vincent : ss. xd Fraser.
Married woman, married quarters, Caine Road.
On afternoon of 22nd June I was with Mrs. Thomson.
We were on steps by No.3 Bridge.
Seeing a crowd we went to see what was happening.
I looked upstream and saw nothing.
I looked downstream and saw a hat floating in water.
It was between 3 and 3.30.
It was a round straw hat floating brim up.
I then saw a little boy just behind the hat being carried down.
I then looked upstream again and saw another little boy coming down on his back, he ad first with his arms out.
I recognised him as Michael Pine.
I then saw a little girl coming down.
I knew her to be Mary Pine.
Behind Mary was aChinese man.
Michael and Mary were a little distance apart, but Mary and the Chinese were quite close.
Mary was in sitting position and so was Chinese.
I went away as I wasn't feeling very well and I don't know any
more.
When I came back onto the bridge I saw that Mary had been rescued and was being taken home by one of the soldiers.
I don't know what happened to the first boy I saw.
We then walked down Murray Path and at mouth of the tunnel we looked over.
We saw a Chinese man being brought out.
It was the same Chinese we had seen in the water.
I at once said so to Mrs. Thomson.
I recognised him by his dress, light top and dark trousers. No hat or shoes.

After the hat I saw the first little boy.
I was looking downstream.
Hat was on left side and boy was on right side.
Water was very rough and he being small was being tossed about and turned round.

Olive Mary Thomson 68. xd.Fraser.
Karried woman Mount Austin Barracks.
On afternoon of 22nd June I was with Mrs. Vincent.
We came onto No.3 Bridge, saw a crowd and went to look.
I looked into nullah and saw a hat floating downstream.
I then saw little boy coming down.
Later I saw a Chinese with a little girl.
The Chinese was just behind the little girl.
The little girl was Mary Pine.
The water was so strong that it threw the Chinese against the wall.
Mary flagted away ahead of him and he followed.
They went out of sight of me.
I was looking downstream.
I then saw a little boy in a coolie's arms just after he had been rescued.
We were going away when I saw a soldier carrying Mary home. We walked down Murray Path and at tunnel entrance I saw some soldiers bring out a Chinese from the tunnel.
He was the same man I had seen being carried down the nullah. The boy was only a few yards behind the hat.
